With the rise of Artificial Intelligence, many jobs are at risk of being taken by A.I., such as doctors, lawyers, accountants, teachers, and even journalists. Is this something to be worried about or should we embrace it?

The world is changing and we're living in a new era. With the rise of Artificial Intelligence, many jobs are at risk of being taken by A.I., such as doctors, lawyers, accountants, teachers, and even journalists. Is this something to be worried about or should we embrace it? In this blog post, I'll explore what it means for society if there were no more jobs left for humans to do. Will we finally make the great leap forward and begin exploring space, conquering diseases and solving our biggest problems or will we all be in a state of boredom?

In 1914, an article was published in The Economist titled "The Americanisation of the world". This article talks about how America has become the biggest economy and that everyone is trying to copy their business models and ways of living. This article was written a century ago and it has been said that history rhymes, meaning the world is going through another similar situation. As we all known, in recent years technology has advanced faster than ever before, something which could revolutionize our society and all the jobs we do on a daily basis.

This post is about AI and how we should embrace it. One of the most important things to know is that A.I will not just do your job for you, A.I will improve your life, but only if we let it.

Here are some examples of jobs that can be taken by algorithms over people:

·                Surgical procedures: In the near future, A.I will be able to perform surgery instead of a surgeon. In January of this year, Dr. Civetta has performed an operation by simply using his smartwatch.

·          Delivery services: Humans don't have to deliver anything anymore because in China they use drones to deliver parcels faster and cheaper.

·          Teaching: As I've said, A.I can be used to learn better than humans as it is programmed for that specific task. In 2015, a company called Mondly has developed an A.I that will teach you 32 different languages  "flash-style".

·          Traffic systems: A.I has been able to fix traffic problems in Los Angeles making the roads more efficient and with less accidents than before.

·          Law: Lawyers have a 88% chance of losing their job within the next 20 years as there are lawyers that make an algorithm for any possible case so that they don't have to waste their time on it.

·          Transport: Self-driving cars are already on the roads and making our lives easier but also, in London, they use a bus that follows a route without a driver in order to increase efficiency. Also, there is an entire company dedicated to self-driving trucks that can take over the trucking industry.

·          Translation: Google Translate is an app that can do any possible language and it's only getting better at that with A.I improving itself every day. The company, DeepL, has developed a new approach towards translation in which they aim to make it more natural and fluent.

These are only a few examples of how A.I can make our lives easier but there are so many other possibilities. A.I is still in its beginning and it's getting more advanced every day, for example, the AI AlphaGo beat the best Go player at that time from South Korea with 4-1 making history in the process.

Also, Google's Deep Dream uses A.I to see who is in the picture or what is in them.

We should embrace A.I because it will only benefit society and us as humans if we let it. With that being said, I believe the quote by Arthur Clarke is suitable for this idea: "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."

Now you may think that A.I will do a lot of bad things to us, I'm with you on this but this doesn't mean we shouldn't embrace it. Sure, in the future there will be problems such as the possibility of robots taking over humanity and controlling it or perhaps A.I hurting people in some way but even in those cases, we will have a solution for it. We are the ones controlling A.I so if anything fails, we can just shut it down and that's not the only solution to our problems.

We live in an age where life expectancy has increased by 10 years and as I said before technology is advancing faster than ever before meaning a lot of jobs will be replaced by A.I but that doesn't mean we can't embrace it. We should see this as an opportunity for new jobs and perhaps some people losing their job but no matter what happens, we have to let go of our fear of the machine and focus on how much they will improve our lives.

Also, it's worth pointing out that A.I is not all bad, in fact there are many good things it can do for us. For example, CreativeAI makes art using different algorithms and we have already seen the amazing things it can create which makes me want to say that we should embrace this new technology because it will only benefit society if we do.

The future is coming and it's inevitable, so let's not be afraid of what may come but instead let us see how much this technology will help society in the future.

It is also worth mentioning that we are at a crucial point in history because A.I has become better than us at almost everything. Now, of course, it is still not perfect and we are improving it every day but that doesn't change the fact that what A.I can already do for us now is amazing.

·          An example would be how IBM Watson can help doctors in their diagnosis by being able to check millions of records in a matter of seconds and compare them with symptoms given by the patient.

·          Or how A.I can fight terrorism using social media and by making predictions based on the data it receives so it can save lives.

·                The possibilities are truly endless: from helping us in our everyday life, to solving complex problems that are too difficult for us to solve, and so much more.

·          A.I can also be used in basically any industry because it is capable of performing the job faster and in a more efficient manner as well as providing insights we would not have been able to obtain without the use of modern technology such as this.

·          One example would be how A.I is already outperforming humans in almost every game, even games where intuition and experience were prerequisites for victory.

·                In 1997 Deep Blue beat world champion, Garry Kasparov, with the score of 2-1 becoming the first machine to beat a reigning world champion in a chess match and now in 2016 Google's Deepdream beat Lee Sedol in the ancient game of Go with 4-1.

·          Also, A.I is not only limited to games, it can also be used for things such as fighting cybercrime by detecting phishing emails or finding any other security problems that may lie in the system.

·        Also, many people seem to underestimate how important A.I will be in our future considering it can be used for improving transport such as self-driving cars and trucks or drones that have so much potential for more than just delivering packages which is just one example of many.

·                For example, A.I can also be used in health care to prevent unnecessary deaths by diagnosing patients with diseases or even helping them personally such as reminding them about their medication and other similar things.

·          In conclusion, all of this means that we are at a crucial point in history because if we embrace this new technology it can solve many problems for us and provide business opportunities while at the same time improving our lives.

However, we must not let our fear of the machine hold us back because A.I will mostly benefit society if we embrace it and that's why I hope you enjoyed reading my article.
