The main premise of Western or Tropical Astrology is that there are twelve constellations, each with its own sign. When the Sun goes into a specific sign each month, we receive an energy from that planet in addition to our own individual personality traits. The astrological calendar that corresponds to these signs operates on a 360-day, 12-month system with 30 days in each month for a total of 36 different weeks. This is known as a solar year, so every two years there is an extra week in February that coincides with the excess day. This is known as a leap year and has been calculated since ancient Babylonian times, ensuring accurate celestial events to be recorded even back then.
