Strum picks are used as a more effective way to move picks from one string to another, especially when you only play one note on each string, such as when playing an arpeggio. The technique itself is very simple, but to master it requires a lot of practice. It involves playing the string continuously using all down or all up strokes, depending on the direction you want to go, in a "sweeping" motion, similar to strumming. The key is to maintain time control of each note played with the plucker, while at the same time ensuring that only one note is heard at a time by carefully muting with the plucker.
